Hi friendos, here's a reminder that furries and otherkin are valid.
I think this continues to be a good read: https://medium.com/@keisisqrl/dear-fellow-trans-people-lay-off-otherkin-9787ccf6725c
LB: even if you don't believe that an otherkin identity can be "real," it is a very helpful means for a lot of people to process their gender identity through a lens of something that doesn't feel so socially-unacceptable.
I speak from experience on this, and being shouted down about the validity of my identity in the 90s did nobody any favors.
I was told quite plainly that I was trivializing the "real" trans experience, and that I'd eventually "outgrow it."
I did eventually grow *apart* from the animal part of my identity (I wouldn't say "outgrow" it), but the gender stuff only intensified after I'd had that mechanism for processing it.
And who cares if it isn't "real?" Having a metaphysical framework is helpful for *so* many things. Your lived experience is never 100% accurate, everything goes through filters of some kind.
