the cool thing about writing is that you can have a million models of how to write a good story, but you’ll basically always end up coming back around to the same basic mechanisms, in one way or another



1. figure out what your core appeal is and don’t get distracted
2. if you set it up, pay it off
3. every scene should do more than one thing. ideally. if you can’t manage that, at least do hit *one* thing per scene
4. (very important) get someone to read your shit before you publish and make sure you didn’t accidentally use some symbol of Serbian nationalism or something
